# Building the Free edition assets

This archive includes the readable source used to build its JavaScript and CSS.
It does not require the commercial checkout, a license key or an update service.

Requirements: Node.js 22.22.2+ (22.x), 24.15.0+ (24.x), or 26+, and npm.
In this plugin directory run:

npm install
npm run build
```

The generated `package.json` pins direct dependencies to the versions installed
when the archive was created. npm resolves their transitive dependencies; builds
are not promised to be byte-for-byte identical across future dependency installs.

`edition-build.json` lists the bundles. `source-build.js` invokes the installed
WordPress scripts for each bundle serially, using `webpack.edition.config.js` and
`webpack.config.js`. Aliases resolve to this directory's `src/`. Generated files
replace this copy's `build/` files; no other plugin installation is changed.
Source maps are disabled. The source-boundary webpack plugin rejects imports
from a different checkout, apart from installed dependencies in `node_modules`.

Keep the original archive as a rollback copy before rebuilding installed files.
The Free license and bundled license text are in `SOURCE-LICENSE.txt` and
`COPYING.txt`. npm packages retain their respective upstream licenses.
