# Portability and presets

Apply these rules to every layout intended for reuse on another Divi site.

## Destination-brand inheritance

- Omit Row `width` and `maxWidth` so the destination site's default Row sizing remains authoritative.
- Omit font `family` unless the requested design depends on a specific typeface.
- Omit ordinary heading and body font `color` so the destination theme or module default preset controls its palette.
- Keep explicit font size, weight, line height, alignment, and spacing when they define the component hierarchy rather than its brand.
- Keep explicit backgrounds, borders, and accent colors only when they are essential to the component design and remain accessible.

## Preset selection

- Treat an omitted `modulePreset` as the portable Divi default. This is normally the best cross-site choice.
- Preserve `modulePreset: ["default"]` only where a verified export uses that shape.
- Do not copy a named Divi Powers preset into a cross-site layout merely because it exists in the export; it may force Divi Powers fonts and colors onto the destination.
- Strip unused preset definitions from distributable exports.
- Use a named site preset only when the target is that same site and the exact preset ID and definition were exported from it.
- Create a reusable preset only after a real Divi export confirms the preset schema and a successful import/export round trip confirms that modules reference it correctly. Never invent a preset ID without bundling and validating its definition.

## Design variables

- Prefer verified destination-site variables when they are available and the layout targets that site.
- Do not invent `gcid-*` or `gvid-*` IDs.
- For broadly distributed layouts, prefer inheritance over bundling brand-specific variables.

## Audit

Before delivery, confirm that the layout contains no accidental Row sizing override, hard-coded font family, unused preset payload, or site-specific preset/variable reference.

## Verified golden reference

`assets/golden-exports/feature-grid-light-2026-08-13.json` successfully saved and rendered on Divi Powers page 1304 with Divi 5.11.0. It confirms:

- implicit destination-default presets with `presets: null`;
- inherited font families and ordinary text colors;
- default Row width with no Row sizing override;
- explicit component surfaces and per-card icon accents;
- two three-card Rows to preserve visual and mobile reading order.
